Insurance & Payment Information

At B's Effort Changing Counseling, we are committed to making the financial aspect of treatment as simple, transparent, and accessible as possible while providing quality mental health care to the communities we serve.


Insurance Claims

As a courtesy, we will submit insurance claims on your behalf when current and accurate insurance information is provided prior to services. Insurance policies and mental health benefits vary by provider and plan. Clients are ultimately responsible for understanding their insurance coverage, deductibles, copays, coinsurance amounts, authorization requirements, and any balances not covered by insurance.

Not all insurance plans cover all mental health services or providers.


Insurance Verification

We encourage clients to contact their insurance provider prior to beginning services to better understand their coverage. 


Helpful questions to ask include:

  • Do I have mental health benefits? 
  • What is my deductible and has it been met? 
  • What is my copay or coinsurance responsibilities? 
  • How many therapy sessions are covered annually? 
  • Is prior authorization or a referral required? 
  • Are telehealth services covered? 


Insurance Cards & Coverage Changes

Clients are responsible for providing updated insurance information and copies of insurance cards prior to appointments. Failure to provide current insurance information may result in claim denials and personal financial responsibility.

If your insurance coverage changes, it is your responsibility to notify our office immediately. Clients are financially responsible for services denied due to inactive coverage, authorization issues, failure to obtain referrals or authorizations, or failure to update insurance information.


Unpaid or Denied Insurance Claims

If an insurance company does not respond within 60 days of claim submission, or if claims are denied, the outstanding balance may become the responsibility of the client. Payment arrangements may be required to continue services.

Certain services may not be covered by insurance plans, including but not limited to:

  • School-based visits 
  • Court-related services 
  • Completion of forms or letters 
  • Professional consultations 
  • Record requests 
  • Other non-covered services

B’s Effort Changing Counseling, PLLC currently accepts many major insurance plans, including:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) 
  • Aetna

  • Humana *select clinicians
  • Tricare *select clinicians
  • NC Medicaid 
  • NC Health Choice
  • NC Medicare *select clinicians


Medicaid Managed Care & MCO Plans

  • Carolina Complete Health 
  • Healthy Blue 
  • AmeriHealth Caritas 
  • WellCare 
  • United Healthcare Community Plan

If we are not currently in-network with your insurance provider, we can provide a superbill or detailed billing statement that may be submitted for possible out-of-network reimbursement.


Private Pay Rates

Private pay fees may vary depending on provider credentials, specialization, and service type.


Current Self-Pay Rates:

  • Initial Clinical Assessment: $100–$150 
  • Individual Therapy Sessions: $80–$120 
  • Couples/Family Therapy Sessions: $100–$140 
  • Professional Consultation Services: $100–$150 


Sliding Fee Scale

B’s Effort Changing Counseling, PLLC is committed to increasing access to quality mental health care. A limited number of reduced-fee and sliding fee scale appointments may be available based on financial need, household income, and clinician availability.

Clients interested in reduced-fee services may contact our office to discuss eligibility and available options.


Accepted Forms of Payment

We accept:

  • Credit/Debit Cards 
  • HSA/FSA Cards 
  • Cash 
  • Checks 

Payment is expected at the time services are rendered unless prior arrangements have been made.


Late Cancellation & Missed Appointment Policy

Scheduled appointments are reserved specifically for each client. To respect the time of both clients and clinicians, we require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or appointment changes whenever possible.

Appointments canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed appointments without notice, may result in the following fees for non-Medicaid clients:

  • Individual Therapy Sessions: $50 
  • Group Therapy Sessions: $30 

Insurance companies do not reimburse for missed appointment fees, and clients are responsible for these charges.


Medicaid Client Policy

Clients utilizing Medicaid benefits, including Medicaid Managed Care and MCO plans, will not be charged late cancellation or missed appointment fees in accordance with applicable Medicaid guidelines and contractual requirements.

However, repeated missed appointments or excessive late cancellations may impact ongoing scheduling availability and may result in:

  • Placement on same-day scheduling 
  • Reduced advance scheduling privileges 
  • Clinical review of attendance barriers 
  • Referral to alternative or higher levels of care when clinically appropriate 

Our goal is to work collaboratively with clients to support consistent attendance and successful treatment outcomes.

We appreciate your understanding, communication, and partnership in helping us maintain quality care and appointment availability for all clients.
